Probably the rarest of military Harleys is the XA (Experimental Army). There are believed to be 12 worldwide 6 of them in the Wheatcroft Collection here at Donington Park.
Similar to the BMW used by the germans in WW2 it has a shaft drive flat twin engine.
Because it was expensive and the army prefered the Jeep only 1000 were ever made.

Actually, the picture is one of only three made XS's (H-D), only one survived; it's in H-D's Archive/ Museum.
There were 1100 XA's made during 1941-43, several dozens survive to this day.
About 15 in Holland, both '42 and '43 types
