Mark IV Male

Mark IV Male with on top an unditching beam.
The Mark IV was the first tank fitted with an unditching beam. A large wooden beam, reinforced with sheet metal, stored across the top of the tank on a set of parallel rails. If the tank became stuck, the beam was attached to the tracks (often under fire) and then dragged beneath the vehicle, providing grip. See picture #1901 for info on the Mark IV Male/Female.
